Knits inspired by Tom of Finland contains knitting patterns based on the original drawings by Tom of Finland as interpreted by the skills of Marjukka Vuorisalo, a Finnish textile artist and Doctor of Arts. Over the course of a year, she developed nearly 20 intricate knit designs for anyone to create at home. The knit designs are accompanied by photographs of MSC Finland, Tom's Leather Club-members wearing the knits in various settings. The photograph, taken by Marjo von Bell, offer an insight into the gay scene and community of Helsinki.
The intricacy and complexity levels of the knitwear patterns range from basic to advanced. Anyone who enjoys the superb art of Tom of Finland now has the opportunity to knit an art piece of their own in homage to the artist.
This book is released in conjunction with Tom of Finland's 100 Year Birthday.
