Daniel Case (b. 1979) documents sites of queer encounter that exist at the margins of visibility. Working at the intersection of documentary landscape photography and unconventional portraiture, Case engages with surveillance, archiving, and the preservation of queer spaces. Outside Sex features intimate photographs of men having sex outdoors, situating these encounters within landscapes shaped by desire, risk, and ritual. 

As Case reflects, “The energy and history of each carved-out space felt like spiritual ruins… fading, but standing as monuments to their purpose and the intimate experiences shared.” Framed as both documentation and memorial, the exhibition positions these cruising grounds as fragile yet enduring records of queer presence—spaces whose beauty, magic, and history persist even as they face erasure.
