Jim French (1932–2017) was a pioneering American photographer of the male nude. Born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, he founded Colt Studio in New York in 1967, later moving it to California, and set a new standard for homoerotic photography across more than three decades. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor (Antinous Press, 2013) gathers 116 of his Polaroids, the working images behind his celebrated studio work.
