CULTUREEDIT Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of photographs by New York-based and cross-disciplinary artist Steven Harwick.
The exhibition, “By the Skin of My Teeth”, shares its name with a self-published monograph Harwick released last year. The works presented at CULTUREEDIT Gallery encompasses a collection of photographs portraying fetishists and participants in the BDSM and leather scene, and aims to highlight and celebrate the diversity inherently present in this community. The subjects include artists, sex workers, musicians, cowboys, lovers and friends, among others. What they all have in common is a love for leather.
Steven’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Schwules Museum in Berlin, the Leather Archives & Museum in Chicago, Bishopsgate Institute in London, and Tom of Finland Foundation in LA. He has exhibited domestically and internationally, showing a range of photography, video art, sculpture, and installations. As an avid self-publisher, he is a frequent participant at book fairs such as the NY Queer Zine Fair and the Paris Ass Book Fair. His ongoing zine, Bound Leather is on its 15th issue, and his first monograph, By the Skin of My Teeth, sold out of its first edition within its first year.
