About the artwork: The artist started exploring his Mouth series in 1965, focusing directly on female mouths rather than their form as a whole. Disembodied, on canvas scaled to the shape of the mouth, Wesselmann reintroduces the art of the female nude through this fetishized isolation of a female form.
