reinaldo egusquiza: Men and Myth
This online exhibition explores the evolving practice of reinaldo egusquiza, a visual artist whose roots in writing have informed a deeply poetic approach to image-making. What began as an exploration of language has transformed into a vivid visual lexicon—one shaped by collage, illustration, and a fascination with myth, memory, and identity.
Drawing on heraldry, religious iconography, and personal geography, egusquiza constructs near-symmetric figures that hover between the sacred and the spectral. Their forms are layered, veiled, and purposefully incomplete—echoes of saints, ghosts, or guardians lost to time. Through this haunting aesthetic, the artist examines the complexities of queer identity, rendering its beauty, its brokenness, and its resilience in equal measure.
Each work becomes a site of excavation: of self, of history, of desire. In tearing apart the traditional portrait, egusquiza allows something new to emerge—intimate, unstable, and wholly alive.
