Barbie is the fashion doll created by Ruth Handler and launched by Mattel in 1959. Named after Handler's daughter Barbara, she has had more than 200 careers and countless iconic outfits, becoming one of the best-known toys of all time. In 2023 Greta Gerwig's Barbie film, starring Margot Robbie, became a global box-office phenomenon.
