John Lennon (1940–1980) was a founding member of the Beatles and one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century. Born in Liverpool, he co-wrote, with Paul McCartney, many of the band's most celebrated songs before a solo career that produced Imagine, an enduring anthem of peace.
