The Return to Orange emerged during a period of uncertainty. As I painted, I grounded in memories of our first home on Orange Street in Los Angeles. This piece is a visual snapshot of a full-circle moment — a return to belonging, community, and chosen family.

My practice is deeply tied to evolution and personal growth, and The Return to Orange emerged during a period of uncertainty when my partner Christopher and I felt misplaced and disconnected living in the suburbs of Chicago. As I painted, I found myself grounding in memories of our first home on Orange Street in Los Angeles—recalling the fragrant jasmine blooming in the spring, the rich patchwork of flowers around every corner, and the sheer abundance of life that gave us hope we would someday find our way back. Through a series of unforeseen events, we were able to find a path back to Los Angeles shortly after our son was born, settling onto a new street with "Orange" fittingly in its name—Orange Grove. This piece is a visual snapshot of that full-circle moment, where memories of what we once thought was a lost past transformed into an optimistic future. More than anything, it marks a return to belonging—a place surrounded by community, true friends, and chosen family, where we now get to raise our new son.
