JOHN DEFAZIO

JOHN DEFAZIO WON A NATIONAL ENDOWMENT for the ARTS GRANT IN 1986 for his ceramics and set up a studio in the NYC Lower East Side. Also was awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts grant in 1990. He worked on the first season of "PEE-WEE'S PLAYHOUSE" creating the 3D animated 'Mutant Toys' and miniature sets and props for the opening sequence, refrigerator and dinosaur cave. In the 1990's he worked on sets and props for MTV events and created a 16 feet long ceramic conference table for their Times Square Headquarters. His "Crystal Meth Crucifix" was exhibited at the Whitney Museum's show "Making Knowing: Craft in Art 1950-2019 and is in the permanent collection. His "Obama Bong (green)" is in the permanent collection of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives. Moving back to San Francisco in 2002 he taught at SFAI for 20 years. Also taught at California College of the Arts creating a class "Bongs, Beads & Beer Steins" in the ceramic department for 2 semesters and 'QUEER SUPER OBJECTS' which ran for 5 years.
