CULTUREEDIT ART AUCTION #8
Gaëtan Dubroca
Gaëtan Dubroca is a French visual and performance artist born in Marseille. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, photography, stained glass, sculpture, installation, and performance, exploring the relationship between bodies and matter through the transformative qualities of light. Working across these mediums, he investigates how physical presence, desire, and materiality intersect, creating works that emphasize sensuality, intimacy, and the poetics of form. Drawing from his lived experience as an HIV-positive sex worker and pornographic performer, Dubroca engages themes of eroticism, sexuality, and visibility. His work challenges conventional representations of the body while addressing questions of identity, vulnerability, and empowerment within contemporary queer experience. Dubroca began his artistic education in applied arts, specializing in fashion design at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne before turning to photography and graduating from EFET. Seeking to reconnect with painting while expanding his practice, he later pursued studies at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, where he developed a broader approach encompassing sculpture, performance, and installation. Through a sustained dialogue between embodiment and materiality, Gaëtan Dubroca creates works that examine the ways in which light reveals, transforms, and intensifies the connections between bodies, objects, and lived experience.
