Clay Burch

Based in New York’s Hudson Valley, Clay Burch is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in mosaic. Using vitreous glass tile, he creates works that explore queer identity, intimacy, masculinity, humor, and coded visual language through objects pulled from everyday life. His practice often transforms familiar forms into highly structured, labor-intensive compositions that blur the line between reverence and play, while also reflecting anxieties surrounding technology, consumer culture, and contemporary American life. Though formally trained in acting, his visual art practice is largely self-taught and informed by an interest in performance, artifice, camp, and material transformation. His ongoing mosaic series reimagines intimate garments, personal symbols, and occasionally larger cultural or mythic imagery through the permanence and precision of glass tile, elevating subjects that are often overlooked, private, or culturally loaded. His work has been exhibited in New York and Connecticut and has taken him abroad for an artist residency and exhibition in Spain. In addition to his studio practice, he works across photography, video, and performance-based media.
