loverboy

Scottish-born designer Charles Jeffrey has taken the fashion world by storm with his eponymous Loverboy label. Channelling the mercurial spirit of lived queer experience, his emotionally-charged menswear collection, which features provocative silhouettes, unconventional patterns, and bold colors, pulses with an energy that is powerfully raw and beautifully subversive. Charles Jeffrey Loverboy’s genesis can be traced to 2009, when the self-proclaimed club kid departed his native Glasgow at age 18 for London, there completing a BA in Fashion Design at the prestigious Central Saint Martins. Since graduating, the young designer’s ascension has been nothing short of meteoric. Within a year of founding the brand, Jeffrey was selected as Emerging Menswear Designer of the Year at the 2017 British Fashion Awards and was nominated for an LVHM Prize. Growing up gay in Scotland has informed much of Jeffrey’s practice, with pieces in the collection exploring themes related to expressions of pain, anger, escapism, and acceptance. This personal journey materializes through the label’s Scottish heritage tartan check trousers and accessories which exist easily alongside contrasted patchwork pieces, graffiti-doused denim, and logo-emblazoned knits. Jeffrey’s collection, with its sincere display of emotional vulnerability, speaks to a new generation of young and unabashed Londoners seeking to reject the status quo.
