CULTUREEDIT ART AUCTION #1
john luckett
Luckett began his creative career in graphic design in Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. He launched his art career in 1997, with a solo exhibition of his work at an outsider art gallery in San Francisco. His work has been shown extensively in galleries throughout the U.S., including Los Angeles, New York, the “high desert” and Joshua Tree, and in Palm Springs, California. Highlights include his residency and solo shows with BoxoProjects in NYC and in Joshua Tree, and the contemporary Loop Show at Beacon Arts in Los Angeles. He mounted installations in both 2019 (“Then”) and 2021 (“Blue”) at the Bombay Beach Biennale on the Salton Sea, and was included in Desert X: Rob Pruitt’s Flea Market at the Palm Springs Art Museum in 2017. His practice has primarily focused on painting, although he has compiled a body of work that includes sculpture, photography, assemblage and installation. His abstract and expressionist paintings, in acrylic, oil and mixed media, are often characterized by extensive and layered mark making. His homoerotic and fetish work explores cultural boundaries of acceptance through illustration, photography and collage. Luckett’s work has been included in private and public collections worldwide. He currently lives and works in Palm Springs, California.
