POLAROID DIARY
About The Exhibition
When I was a gay in my twenties, I had a boyfriend who took intimate polaroids of me. When we broke up I made sure the photos left with me, and not with him. My husband found them once and has since hidden them from me, he loves them, and fears I’d destroy something from the past that he finds beautiful.
In that spirit before you is an ongoing series of intimate instants. Some overexposed in the style of photos taken by an inexperienced lover for their private collection, others Polaroid portraits and visions mastered by my friend and photographer Roman Robinson. Some are the omni-present selfies taken by me for someone else. Setting them free into the world is weirdly frightening and liberating. There’s only one of each. The moment has passed, but you can still hold it in your hands. Even if you weren’t in the room or the bed when they were taken.
